Teaching Your Kyi-Leo To Sit

Teach Your Kyi-Leo to Sit

Are you aiming to teach your Kyi-Leo to sit? The skill of sitting up is quite easily taught to smaller dogs, however much larger dogs are a different story. It’s problematic for them to maintain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo to Sit: Planning

Sitting is one of the initial tricks that should be taught to your Kyi-Leo and provides the foundation for several other tricks. In order to train a Kyi-Leo to sit up, prep some treats as a perk, and set the Kyi-Leo on her butt in the corner, so that she won’t be able to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command

Prevent her from tilting towards you by holding 1 hand underneath her chin and with the second hand hold her snack above her face. Keep saying deliberately and distinctly, “sit.” Do not make her sit up too long at any one time, but repeat the instruction regularly and reward her regularly with plenty of approval and snacks.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo to Sit: Help Her Balance

During her 1st lesson your Kyi-Leo will require a surprising amount of assistance from your hand to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gets better control of her stabilizing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she’ll depend less and less upon your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give your Kyi-Leo less support up until you’ll only have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be set to stop her from falling forward; later on you can take away this hand entirely and just hold the reward just above the level of your Kyi-Leo’s head.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo To Sit: Remove the Aids Gradually

With consistent training she will stay seated for a good while after you make her. The next step is she should be set up against the wall, so as to offer her assistance for her back only. Soon after she has gotten the hang of this and can hold her place easily, rehearse with her against chair legs, pillows or other items that offer her less and less help and support. At some point she will learn to keep her equilibrium and sit without needing anything to lean against.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her psyche by frequent repetition. Now here's the final training to teach your Kyi-Leo to sit up as soon as she hears the phrase. There's a great chance, if she has been properly trained, you will merely have to call her out into the room, reveal a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she will do so. Then you'll just give her the snack while still in place.

The only prerequisite for flawlessness is to rehearse with her multiple times daily until she will sit when told and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only once she has obeyed the command.

Teach Your Kyi-Leo Other Tricks

You have now the method for teaching your Kyi-Leo many other tricks. She now can be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.

In instructing a Kyi-Leo to submit to being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many items at one time. Try at first with a cap. After she becomes familiar with that you can put on a coat and little by little introduce her to the other garments.

Take joy in "teaching your Kyi-Leo the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun along the way!
