Are you working to teach your Sakhalin Husky to sit? The talent of sitting up is easily taught to very small dogs, but larger dogs are a different story. It is difficult for them to maintain their balance.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky to Sit: Anticipation
Sitting is one of the initial techniques that you should teach to your Sakhalin Husky and forms the ground work for plenty of other skills. In order to train a Sakhalin Husky to sit up, put together some treats as a perk, and place the Sakhalin Husky on her haunches in a corner, so she is not able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command
Protect her from falling to the front by maintaining 1 hand under her chin and using your second hand dangle her treat above your Sakhalin Husky’s face. Keep repeating clearly and deliberately, “sit.” Do not force her to sit up too long at any one time, however repeat the instruction frequently and reward her often with lots of approval and treats.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
Throughout the very first lesson your Sakhalin Husky will demand quite a bit of help and support from you to stop her from pitching forward, but as she gains control of the stabilizing muscles and realizes what you want her to do, she will depend less on your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give her less assistance until you will simply have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be ready to prevent her from falling forward; eventually you will be able to remove this hand completely and merely dangle the reward right above the level of your Sakhalin Husky’s face.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky To Sit: Remove the Aids Gradually Over Time
With frequent training your Sakhalin Husky will sit up for a good while after you tell her to. Then she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her support for her back only. Once she has learned this and can keep her posture easily, rehearse with her up against chair legs, cushions or other objects that provide her less and less aid. In time she will figure out how to maintain her balance and sit in the absence of anything to lean on.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky to Sit: Putting It All Together
In the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious with the assistance of frequent repetition. Now comes the final training to teach your Sakhalin Husky to sit up as quickly as she hears the command. Chances are, if she has been diligently instructed, you will just have to get her out into the room, show her a snack, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will do so. Then just give her the reward while still in place.
The only condition for excellence is to rehearse with her multiple times a day until she sits up when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only once she has obeyed the direction.
Teach Your Sakhalin Husky Other Tricks
You have now the groundwork for teaching your Sakhalin Husky many other skills. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She can also learn to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.
In training a Sakhalin Husky to tolerate being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many things at one time. Try her at first with a cap. Once she gets used to that you could put on a coat and gradually introduce her to the other garments.
