How To Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel To Sit

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel to Sit

Are you making an attempt to teach your Toy Trawler Spaniel to sit? The technique of sitting up is easily taught to little dogs, however much bigger pooches are another story. It is tough for them to maintain their balance.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel to Sit: Anticipation

Sitting up is one of the very first techniques that you should teach to your Toy Trawler Spaniel and provides the ground work for a lot of other techniques. To train a Toy Trawler Spaniel to sit up, put together some treats as a reward, and put the Toy Trawler Spaniel on her haunches in the corner, so that she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command

Prevent her from falling forward by sticking your hand underneath her chin and using the other hand dangle the treat above your Toy Trawler Spaniel’s nose. Keep saying clearly and deliberately, “sit up.” Do not make her sit too long at one time, but repeat the training frequently and reward her regularly with lots of cheers and snacks.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance

Throughout her initial lesson your Toy Trawler Spaniel will demand a surprising amount of assistance from your hand to keep her from falling forward, but as she gains control of the balancing muscles and learns what you want her to do, she’ll count less and less upon your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give your Toy Trawler Spaniel less help and support until you’ll simply have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be waiting to stop her falling forward; later you can easily withdraw your hand entirely and just suspend the snack right over the level of your Toy Trawler Spaniel’s head.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel To Sit: Remove the Aids Incrementally

With constant training she will sit up for a long time after you command her. Then she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her a support for her back. Only after she has soaked up this and can maintain her position easily, practice with her using chair legs, cushions or other things that give her less and less help. Ultimately she will grasp how to sustain her balance and sit up without something to rest against.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her subconscious with the assistance of frequent repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Toy Trawler Spaniel to sit up immediately after she hears the command. There's a great chance, if she has been diligently taught, you will just have to summon her out in the room, show her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she'll obey. Then give her the reward while still in position.

The only prerequisite for perfection is to train with your Toy Trawler Spaniel several times a day until she can sit when commanded to and without being shown a reward; give her the snacks only after she has adhered to the direction.

Teach Your Toy Trawler Spaniel Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Toy Trawler Spaniel many other tricks. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

In training a Toy Trawler Spaniel to tolerate being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many garments simultaneously. Try her at first with a hat. Once she gets adjusted to that you can put on a coat and eventually introduce her to more clothes.

Take joy in "teaching your Toy Trawler Spaniel the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
