Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound to Sit: Prep

Sitting up is one of the most basic tricks that you should teach to your Bruno Jura Hound and lays the foundation for many other tricks. In order to train a Bruno Jura Hound to sit up, prep some snacks as a reward, and put your Bruno Jura Hound on her butt in the corner, so that she is not able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words

Prevent her from tilting forward by maintaining 1 hand on her chin and using your other hand hold her reward above the Bruno Jura Hound’s face. Keep repeating deliberately and distinctly, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit for too long at any one time, but do repeat the instruction often and reward her frequently with loads of adoration and snacks.

Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

In the 1st lesson your Bruno Jura Hound will call for a lot of help and support from your hand to prevent her from pitching forward, but as she gains more control of the balancing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she will count less upon your hand to hold her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help till you will just have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be waiting to prevent her from falling forward; in the future you can probably take away this hand completely and simply suspend the reward right over the level of your Bruno Jura Hound’s head.

Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound To Sit: Remove the Assistance Incrementally

After constant training your Bruno Jura Hound will stay seated long after you command her. The next step is she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her support for her back. Only after she has soaked up this and can hold her position effortlessly, practice with her up against chair legs, pillows or other items that offer her less and less help and support. Eventually she will understand how to keep her stability and sit without something to rest against.

Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious by regular repetition. Last is the final lesson to teach your Bruno Jura Hound to sit up immediately after she hears the command. Chances are, if she has been properly trained, you will only have to get her out in the room, reveal to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up or sit" and she will do so. Then give her the snack while still in place.

The only necessity for perfection is to practice with her several times daily until she can sit on command and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only once she has obeyed the order.

Teach Your Bruno Jura Hound Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Bruno Jura Hound many other tricks. She can now be taught how to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to hold an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

While instructing a Bruno Jura Hound to tolerate being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many items at one time. Try her at first with just a cap. Soon after she gets familiar with that you could put on a jacket and slowly introduce her to more garments.
