How To Train Your Braque Francais To Sit

Teach Your Braque Francais to Sit

Are you aspiring to teach your Braque Francais to sit? The talent of sitting up is easily taught to compact dogs, but much bigger doggies are a different story. It is problematic for them to maintain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Braque Francais to Sit: Prep

Sitting is one of the 1st tricks that you should teach to your Braque Francais and is the ground work for innumerable other tricks. In order to train a Braque Francais to sit up, prep some treats as a perk, and put your Braque Francais on her backside in a corner, to ensure she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Braque Francais to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words

Stop her from tilting forward by securing your hand beneath her chin and using your second hand dangle her snack above the Braque Francais’s nose. Keep repeating clearly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Do not force her to sit for too long at one time, but do repeat the lesson routinely and reward her frequently with plenty of approval and treats.

Teach Your Braque Francais to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

In her very first lesson your Braque Francais will need considerable support from your hand to prevent her from tumbling forward, but as she gets better control of the balancing muscles and figures out what you want her to do, she will count less on your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give her less support until you will basically have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be ready to stop her falling forward; in the future you will be able to remove your hand completely and just hold the reward just over the level of your Braque Francais’s head.

Teach Your Braque Francais To Sit: Remove the Help Incrementally

After consistent training your Braque Francais will sit up long after you command her. Next she should be set against your wall, so as to provide her assistance for her back. After she has understood this and can maintain her posture effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, pillows or other items that offer her less and less assistance. Sooner or later she will get the hang of how to sustain her balance and sit without needing anything to rest against.

Teach Your Braque Francais to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been impressed upon her subconscious by means of constant repetition. Last is the final lesson to teach your Braque Francais to sit up as quickly as she hears the words. There's a good chance, if she has been properly trained, you will merely have to get her out in the room, reveal a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up or sit" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the snack while still in place.

The only requirement for perfection is to rehearse with your Braque Francais several times a day until she will sit up when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has followed the command.

Teach Your Braque Francais Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Braque Francais many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in conjunction with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

When training a Braque Francais to tolerate being dressed up, don't try to make her wear too many clothes simultaneously. Try at first with just a hat. Only after she gets accustomed to that you could put on a jacket and over time introduce her to the other clothes.

Appreciate "teaching your Braque Francais the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun while you're doing it!
