Want to Teach Your Taigan Some Tricks: Here’s 3

3 Tricks To Teach Your Taigan
3 Tricks To Teach Your Taigan

To teach your Taigan tricks, even the simple ones, you should have in hand some savory snacks, be in a remote suitable place and try to keep the learning sessions to under 15 minutes or your Taigan will start to get tired. Keep in mind when he gets something right give him lots of appreciation and a reward treat, but beware not to get him extremely excited or he might lose concentration.

Teach your Taigan to give you his paw

To get your Taigan to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Now repeat this, and after a couple of successful tries don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You must see that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to stating it at the same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction again. After a couple of sessions most Taigans pick this trick up rather easily.

Teach your Taigan to give you a high 5

Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Hold a treat in your fingers and lift your hand a bit higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Taigan will believe you wish to do the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we trained him previously. As he reaches up you say “high 5” and offer your Taigan the treat. As soon as your Taigan has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be extremely simple to understand and with just a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than vocal commands.

Teach your Taigan to leap through a hoop

Before you begin this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop too high up as you do not want your Taigan to injure himself while performing the trick. Set your Taigan to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and offer the Taigan the command to stop sitting. Initially he may try to go around or beneath the hoop. When this happens begin again. Your Taigan desires the snack and will soon find out that walking around or under doesn’t get it so he’ll quickly begin going through it. The instant he does, state “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I first began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and gradually brought it to waist height. In the case that you have a smaller dog you might wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and then gradually elevate it more once he gets used to the trick.

I know you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Taigan. Have patience with your Taigan and above all, have fun!
