To teach your South Russian Ovcharka tricks, even simple ones, you should carry some of his favorite treats, be in a secluded suitable place and always keep the learning sessions to under fifteen minutes or the South Russian Ovcharka will start to get tired. Just remember when he gets something right give him great deals of praise and a reward treat, just take care not to get him excessively thrilled or he might lose focus.
Teach your South Russian Ovcharka to give you his paw
To get your South Russian Ovcharka to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. After that repeat this, and after a couple of successful tries do not take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You ought to see that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then go back to stating it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction once again. After a couple of sessions most South Russian Ovcharkas pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your South Russian Ovcharka to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a progression of an earlier trick, and in this case the paw trick. Place a snack in between your fingers and lift your hand a bit higher than you would for the paw trick. Your South Russian Ovcharka will assume you want to perform the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we had trained him in the prior trick. While he rises you state “high 5” and offer him the snack. When your South Russian Ovcharka has mastered the paw trick this one should be really simple to understand and with just a couple of sessions he will be doing it on hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your South Russian Ovcharka to leap through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop too high as you do not want your South Russian Ovcharka to injure himself while practicing the trick. Set your South Russian Ovcharka to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and give the South Russian Ovcharka the command to stop sitting. Initially he might attempt to go around or underneath the hoop. When this occurs start once again. Your South Russian Ovcharka desires the treat and will quickly find out that walking around or below does not get it so he will quickly begin going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually increased it to waist high. In case you own a smaller dog you might wish to begin with the hoop touching the ground so he just goes through the hoop and after that gradually raise it as he gets used to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your South Russian Ovcharka. Have patience with your South Russian Ovcharka and most of all, have fun!
