To teach your Ariegeois tricks, even the simple ones, you should get some small treats, be in an obscure suitable location and keep the training sessions to under 15 minutes or the Ariegeois will begin to get bored. Always remember when he gets something right give him great deals of praise and a reward snack, just take care not to get him excessively excited or he will lose focus.
Teach your Ariegeois to give you his paw
To train your Ariegeois to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. And then do this again, and after a few practices don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and after that take it. You should discover that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then go back to saying it at the same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your response again. After a few sessions most Ariegeoiss pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Ariegeois to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high five is a progression of an easier trick, and in this case the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your two fingers and lift your hand a little bit higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Ariegeois will presume you desire to do the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we instructed him earlier. Once he reaches up you say “high five” and give him the snack. When your Ariegeois has mastered the paw trick this one will probably be extremely simple to learn and with just a few sessions he will be performing it on hand signal rather than voice control.
Teach your Ariegeois to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little practical and not hold the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Ariegeois to harm himself while doing the trick. Place your Ariegeois to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Ariegeois the direction to stop sitting. In the beginning he might attempt to go around or below the hoop. When this occurs start again. Your Ariegeois desires the treat and will quickly learn that going around or underneath does not get it done so he’ll quickly begin going through it. Once he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started off doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly raised it to waist high. In the event that you own a smaller sized dog you may wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
