Training Your Tahltan Bear Dog To Sit

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog to Sit

Are you attempting to teach your Tahltan Bear Dog to sit? The talent of sitting up is easily taught to petite dogs, yet larger canines are a different story. It is problematic for them to keep their equilibrium.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog to Sit: Readiness

Sitting up is one of the first tricks that you should teach to your Tahltan Bear Dog and lays the foundation for quite a few other techniques. To train a Tahltan Bear Dog to sit up, organize some treats as a reward, and place the Tahltan Bear Dog on her rump in a corner, so that she can not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command

Stop her from tilting towards you by holding one hand on her chin and using the second hand hold the treat above your Tahltan Bear Dog’s nose. Keep saying deliberately and clearly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit too long at one time, but do repeat the training often and reward her regularly with lots of appreciation and treats.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance

Throughout the 1st lesson your Tahltan Bear Dog will demand a surprising amount of help and support from your hand to keep her from pitching forward, but as she gets better control of her muscles and starts to learn what you want her to do, she’ll rely less and less on your hand to keep her in position. Then you can gradually give your Tahltan Bear Dog less support til you’ll only have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be prepared to prevent her falling forward; eventually you may take away the hand completely and just dangle the snack just over the height of her face.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog To Sit: Remove the Aids Slowly

After constant training she will stay seated for a good while after you make her. Afterward she should be set against your wall, so as to give her support for her back only. Immediately after she has understood this and can maintain her place easily, rehearse with her using chair legs, cushions or other things that give her less and less assistance. Gradually she will understand how to maintain her equilibrium and sit up without relying on something to rest on.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her subconscious with the assistance of persistent repetition. Lastly comes the final lesson to teach your Tahltan Bear Dog to sit up immediately after she hears the words. Most likely, if she has been carefully trained, you will merely have to call her out into the room, display a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she will do so. Then give her the snack while still in place.

The only condition for flawlessness is to train with her multiple times a day until she will sit up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only once she has adhered to the command.

Teach Your Tahltan Bear Dog Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Tahltan Bear Dog many other skills. She now can be taught to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours.
