Training Your Olde English Bulldogge To Sit

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge to Sit

Are you trying to teach your Olde English Bulldogge to sit? The skill of sitting up is easily taught to small dogs, though bigger pet dogs are a different story. It’s problematic for them to keep their equilibrium.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge to Sit: Anticipation

Sitting is one of the fundamental skills that should be taught to a Olde English Bulldogge and forms the ground work for innumerable other techniques. In order to train a Olde English Bulldogge to sit up, put together some treats as a reward, and put your Olde English Bulldogge on her haunches in a corner, to ensure she will not fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words

Stop her from falling forward by maintaining 1 hand under her chin and with the other hand hold her treat above her face. Keep repeating deliberately and clearly, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit too long at any one time, but do repeat the training often and reward her frequently with a lot of appreciation and snacks.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

Throughout her first lesson your Olde English Bulldogge will demand a surprising amount of assistance from you to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gains more control of her stabilizing muscles and knows what you want, she will count less and less on your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give your Olde English Bulldogge less assistance until you will merely have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be set to stop her falling forward; later on you can most likely withdraw the hand completely and just dangle the snack just over the height of your Olde English Bulldogge’s face.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge To Sit: Remove the Assistance Incrementally

After regular practice she will stay seated well after you get her to sit. The next step is she should be set against the wall, so as to give her a support for her back only. Immediately after she has understood this and can keep her position effortlessly, rehearse with her using chair legs, cushions or other objects that provide her less and less help and support. Ultimately she will grasp how to keep her balance and sit up without something to lean on.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge to Sit: Putting It All Together

Throughout all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind through constant repetition. Last comes the final training to teach your Olde English Bulldogge to sit up as soon as she hears the words. Chances are, if she has been diligently trained, you will merely have to summon her out in the room, reveal to her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then give her the treat while still in position.

The only criteria for perfection is to train with your Olde English Bulldogge multiple times a day until she sits up when commanded to and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only after she has followed the order.

Teach Your Olde English Bulldogge Other Tricks

You have now the basis for teaching your Olde English Bulldogge many other skills. She now can learn how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

While instructing a Olde English Bulldogge to tolerate being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many items at the same time. Try at first with just a cap. After she gets familiar with that you could put on a jacket and steadily introduce her to more clothing.

Take joy in "teaching your Olde English Bulldogge the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
