Prevent her from pitching to the front by sticking 1 hand underneath her chin and using the second hand dangle her reward above the Norrbottenspets’s nose. Throughout the first lesson your Norrbottenspets will call for a lot of support from your hand to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gains more control of the muscles and is aware of what you want, she’ll depend less upon your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give your Norrbottenspets less assistance till you will merely have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be available to prevent her falling forward; later on you can easily remove the hand completely and simply suspend the snack just above the level of her face.

With regular training she will stay seated for a long time after you make her. Next she should be set against the wall, so as to offer her a support for her back only. When she has gotten the hang of this and can hold her place effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, cushions or other things that provide her less and less support. Sooner or later she will understand how to keep her stability and sit without relying on something to rest against.

Then just give her the snack while still in place.

The only necessity for perfection is to practice with her multiple times daily until she will sit when told and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only after she has complied with the order.

Teach Your Norrbottenspets Other Tricks
