Tips For Training Your Finnish Hound To Sit

Teach Your Finnish Hound to Sit

Are you attempting to teach your Finnish Hound to sit? The technique of sitting up is regularly taught to compact dogs, though much bigger pet dogs are another story. It’s problematic for them to sustain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Finnish Hound to Sit: Groundwork

Sitting is one of the first techniques that you should teach to a Finnish Hound and forms the ground work for a large number of other skills. In order to train a Finnish Hound to sit up, put together some snacks as a perk, and put the Finnish Hound on her backside in the corner, to make sure that she can not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Finnish Hound to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Words

Prevent her from pitching to the front by securing one hand beneath her chin and using the other hand hold the treat above her nose. Keep saying intelligibly and distinctly, “sit up.” Do not force her to sit too long at one time, but repeat the lesson often and reward her often with a lot of adoration and snacks.

Teach Your Finnish Hound to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

In her first lesson your Finnish Hound will call for a lot of help from you to keep her from falling forward, but as she gets control of the muscles and grasps what you want her to do, she will depend less on your hand to hold her steady. Then you can gradually give her less assistance till you’ll only have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be waiting to stop her from falling forward; eventually you might remove your hand and just simply suspend the reward just above the level of your Finnish Hound’s face.

Teach Your Finnish Hound To Sit: Remove the Aids Gradually

After consistent training your Finnish Hound will stay seated for a long time after you make her. The next step is she should be set up against your wall, so as to provide her help for her back only. Soon after she has understood this and can keep her place effortlessly, practice with her up against chair legs, pillows or other items that offer her less and less assistance. Gradually she will be trained to preserve her stability and sit up without needing something to rest on.

Teach Your Finnish Hound to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious by regular repetition. Now here's the final lesson to teach your Finnish Hound to sit up as quickly as she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been carefully trained, you will only have to summon her out into the room, reveal to her a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the treat while still in place.

The only criteria for flawlessness is to rehearse with her several times a day until she will sit when told and without being shown a reward; give her the snacks only once she has adhered to the order.

Teach Your Finnish Hound Other Tricks

You have now the technique for teaching your Finnish Hound many other tricks. She now can be taught to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

In teaching a Finnish Hound to accept being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many things at once. Try at first with a hat. Only after she gets used to that you can put on a jacket and gradually introduce her to the other clothing.
