Are you making an attempt to teach your Bullenbeisser to sit? The skill of sitting up is quite easily taught to compact dogs, yet much larger pooches are another story. It’s tough for them to sustain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Bullenbeisser to Sit: Prep work

Sitting is one of the initial tricks that should be taught to a Bullenbeisser and is the groundwork for several other techniques. In order to train a Bullenbeisser to sit up, prepare some treats as a perk, and put the Bullenbeisser on her haunches in the corner, to make sure that she won’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Bullenbeisser to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase

Prevent her from pitching towards you by keeping one hand under her chin and using your second hand hold her treat above her face. Keep repeating clearly and deliberately, “sit up.” Don’t force her to sit up for too long at any one time, however repeat the instruction often and reward her often with a lot of approval and treats.

Teach Your Bullenbeisser to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

In the first lesson she will need significant assistance from you to keep her from falling forward, but as she gets more control of the stabilizing muscles and knows what you want, she’ll rely less and less upon your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give your Bullenbeisser less help til you’ll simply have to keep one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be available to prevent her from falling forward; later you can easily take away the hand altogether and just simply suspend the snack right over the level of your Bullenbeisser’s head.

Teach Your Bullenbeisser To Sit: Remove the Aids Eventually

With frequent practice your Bullenbeisser will stay seated for a long time after you make her. Afterward she should be set up against the wall, so as to provide her help for her back. After she has taken in this and can keep her posture effortlessly, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other items that offer her less and less help and support. At some point she will master how to keep her stability and sit without something to rest against.




Teach Your Bullenbeisser to Sit: Putting It All Together

Throughout all these lessons the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious by means of constant repetition. Last is the final training to teach your Bullenbeisser to sit up whenever she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been properly taught, you will just have to call her out in the room, display a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she'll do so. Then just give her the snack while still in place.

The only necessity for excellence is to practice with her several times daily until she sits up on command and without being shown a reward; give her the snacks only after she has followed the command.

Teach Your Bullenbeisser Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Bullenbeisser many other tricks. She can now learn how to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She can also learn to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

When teaching a Bullenbeisser to submit to being dressed up, do not try to make her wear too many things at once. Try at first with just a cap. Once she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and progressively introduce her to the other garments.
