Teach Your Tamaskan Dog to Sit: Planning

Sitting up is one of the very first skills that you should teach to a Tamaskan Dog and forms the groundwork for quite a few other tricks. In order to train a Tamaskan Dog to sit up, prepare some snacks as a perk, and put your Tamaskan Dog on her rump in the corner, to make sure that she won’t be able to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Tamaskan Dog to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command

Keep her from pitching towards you by sticking one hand on her chin and with the second hand hold her reward above your Tamaskan Dog’s nose. Keep saying clearly and intelligibly, “sit.” Do not make her sit for too long at any one time, but repeat the training routinely and reward her frequently with lots of appreciation and treats.

Teach Your Tamaskan Dog to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

During her very first lesson your Tamaskan Dog will demand a lot of help from you to stop her from pitching forward, but as she gets control of the muscles and starts to understand what you want her to do, she will rely less and less on your hand to hold her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help and support up until you will basically have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be in position to prevent her falling forward; eventually you can most likely remove the hand altogether and just hold the snack just above the level of her face.

Teach Your Tamaskan Dog To Sit: Remove the Assistance Slowly And Gradually

After frequent practice she will sit up for a good while after you set her up. Next she should be set against a wall, so as to offer her a support for her back only. After she has figured out this and can hold her position effortlessly, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other objects that provide her less and less help. Eventually she will understand how to preserve her balance and sit up without relying on anything to rest on.

Teach Your Tamaskan Dog to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all this training the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her subconscious with the assistance of regular repetition. Last here's the final lesson to teach your Tamaskan Dog to sit up right after she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been properly taught, you will simply have to summon her out in the room, show a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she will do so. Then just give her the reward while still in position.

The only necessity for excellence is to train with her several times a day until she sits when commanded to and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only after she has adhered to the direction.

Teach Your Tamaskan Dog Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Tamaskan Dog many other skills. She can now learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to hold an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

While training a Tamaskan Dog to tolerate being dressed up, do not try to make her wear too many clothes at the same time. Try her at first with a cap. Once she becomes accustomed to that you could put on a coat and steadily introduce her to more clothing.
