Prevent her from falling towards you by holding 1 hand beneath her chin and using your other hand hold her reward above her face. Keep saying deliberately and clearly, “sit.” Do not force her to sit up too long at one time, but do repeat the instruction routinely and reward her frequently with a lot of appreciation and snacks.
Teach Your Old German Shepherd Dog to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced
Throughout her initial lesson your Old German Shepherd Dog will require a surprising amount of assistance from your hand to keep her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of her stabilizing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she will rely less upon your hand to hold her in position. Gradually, you can give your Old German Shepherd Dog less assistance up until you will basically have to keep one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be ready to prevent her falling forward; eventually you may remove this hand completely and just dangle the reward right above the height of her face.

After regular practice your Old German Shepherd Dog will sit up well after you tell her to. Afterward she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her a support for her back. When she has understood this and can maintain her place effortlessly, rehearse with her using chair legs, pillows or other things that give her less and less support. Sooner or later she will master how to keep her stability and sit up without anything to lean against.

During all this training the command "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her subconscious with the assistance of constant repetition. Lastly is the final lesson to teach your Old German Shepherd Dog to sit up right after she hears the phrase. There's a great chance, if she has been properly trained, you will merely have to call her out into the room, show her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she will do so. Then give her the snack while still in position.
The only criteria for excellence is to train with her multiple times a day until she sits up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only once she has obeyed the command.

You have now the method for teaching your Old German Shepherd Dog many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in sync with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.
While training a Old German Shepherd Dog to submit to being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many items at one time. Try at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and eventually introduce her to more clothes.
