Tips For Teaching Your Mcnab To Sit

Teach Your Mcnab to Sit

Are you aiming to teach your Mcnab to sit? The technique of sitting up is quite easily taught to smaller dogs, though bigger pooches are a different story. It’s hard for them to maintain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Mcnab to Sit: Groundwork

Sitting is one of the most basic techniques that should be taught to a Mcnab and provides the foundation for several other tricks. In order to train a Mcnab to sit up, prep some snacks as a reward, and place your Mcnab on her haunches in a corner, to ensure she is unable to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Mcnab to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Sound of The Words

Stop her from falling towards you by sticking one hand under her chin and with your other hand dangle the treat above your Mcnab’s nose. Keep repeating intelligibly and distinctly, “sit.” Do not make her sit for too long at one time, but do repeat the instruction routinely and reward her frequently with a lot of approval and treats.

Teach Your Mcnab to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance

In the very first lesson your Mcnab will demand considerable assistance from you to keep her from tumbling forward, but as she gets control of her balancing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she’ll rely less on your hand to keep her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help till you will simply have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be available to prevent her falling forward; later on you can easily withdraw this hand completely and simply hold the treat right over the height of her face.

Teach Your Mcnab To Sit: Remove the Help Eventually

After consistent practice she will sit up well after you command her. Afterward she should be set against the wall, so as to give her assistance for her back. Only after she has taken in this and can keep her place easily, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other things that offer her less and less support. At some point she will learn to sustain her stability and sit without relying on something to rest on.

Teach Your Mcnab to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been impressed upon her psyche with the assistance of persistent repetition. Lastly comes the final training to teach your Mcnab to sit up as quickly as she hears the phrase. Chances are, if she has been carefully taught, you will merely have to summon her out in the room, show to her a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she will do so. Then give her the reward while still in position.

The only prerequisite for flawlessness is to train with her several times a day until she can sit up on command and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only once she has adhered to the order.

Teach Your Mcnab Other Tricks

You have now the technique for teaching your Mcnab many other tricks. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in sync with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

When teaching a Mcnab to submit to being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many items at one time. Try at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and incrementally introduce her to more clothing.

Take pleasure in "teaching your Mcnab the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun while you're doing it!
