Three Tricks You Can Teach Your Labrador Retriever Right Now

3 Tricks To Teach Your Labrador Retriever
3 Tricks To Teach Your Labrador Retriever

To teach your Labrador Retriever tricks, even simple ones, you need to get some of his favorite snacks, be in an obscure suitable place and keep the teaching sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Labrador Retriever will start to get tired. Always remember when he gets something correct give him lots of praise and a reward snack, just be cautious not to get him over ecstatic or he might lose focus.

Teach your Labrador Retriever to give you his paw

To get your Labrador Retriever to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. Now do this again, and after a couple of practices don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then after that take it. You must see that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction again. After just a few sessions most Labrador Retrievers pick this trick up rather easily.

Teach your Labrador Retriever to give you a high 5

Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of an earlier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in your fingers and raise your hand just a bit higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Labrador Retriever will expect you wish to do the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we had trained him previously. While he reaches up you state “high five” and give him the treat. When your Labrador Retriever has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be extremely simple to learn and with just a couple of sessions he will be performing it from your hand signal rather than from your voice.

Teach your Labrador Retriever to jump through a hoop

Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t want your Labrador Retriever to injure himself while performing the trick. Place your Labrador Retriever to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Labrador Retriever the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might attempt to go around or under the hoop. When this takes place start again. Your Labrador Retriever desires the treat and will quickly discover that walking around or underneath doesn’t get it so he’ll quickly begin going through it. Whenever he does, state “hoop” and give him the snack. He will quickly be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I first began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually raised it to waist height. In the case that you have a smaller sized dog you may want to begin with the hoop touching the ground so he just goes through the hoop and then gradually lift it more once he gets used to the trick.

I really hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Labrador Retriever. Have patience with your Labrador Retriever and above all, have fun!
