Three Tricks You Can Teach Your French Spaniel Now

3 Tricks To Teach Your French Spaniel

To teach your French Spaniel tricks, even easy ones, you should have some yummy snacks, take him to a quiet suitable place and keep the coaching sessions to ten to fifteen minutes or the French Spaniel will begin to get bored. Always remember when he gets something correct offer him lots of praise and a reward treat, though take care not to get him over fired up or he might lose concentration.

Teach your French Spaniel to give you his paw

To train your French Spaniel to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. Now do this again, and after a few times don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and only then take it. You must discover that he is bringing his paw upward as you say the word. If he does not then go back to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction once again. After a couple of sessions most French Spaniels pick this trick up quite quickly.

Teach your French Spaniel to offer you a high 5

Like a lot of tricks the high five is a continuation of a more basic trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your two fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your French Spaniel will believe you wish to do the paw trick and will reach for the treat with his paw as we taught him in the previous trick. Once he reaches up you state “high five” and give your French Spaniel the treat. Once your French Spaniel has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be extremely easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal instead of your voice.

Teach your French Spaniel to jump through a hoop

Before you begin this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop too high as you do not want your French Spaniel to injure himself while performing the trick. Place your French Spaniel on one side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a snack in your hand and give the French Spaniel the direction to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to walk around or beneath the hoop. If this occurs start once again. Your French Spaniel wants the treat and will soon learn that going around or beneath does not work so he’ll quickly begin going through it. If he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He will soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the floor and slowly increased it to waist high. In the case that you own a smaller sized dog you might wish to begin with the hoop on the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly raise it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.

I trust you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your French Spaniel. Have patience with your French Spaniel and most of all, have fun!
