All of us long for training the perfect English Setter, a pet that is a CGC or canine good citizen and is well behaved and responsible at all times. Well dreams do come true if the education is performed with kindness and focus. Never forget pups learn from the first day and really need to be taught what is right, what is not, and ideal interpersonal skills.

- Up until your pup is trained, you must keep an eye on him at all times. If you can’t then you have to cage him. Put together a plan for the pup, that will serve to help him to settle fast. - Use only positive training methods. Never yell at, attack, or punish your English Setter. It’s not only harsh but will induce behavioral problems. Using electric shocks, prong collars, sprays, and so forth could very well harm the animal.
- Show the pup “nothing in this life is without cost.” This is a philosophy that is broadly accepted as a very useful teaching tool. When you emphasize this, your pup will learn that to experience something like affection, a walk, or treat, he will need to act well.
- Show the meaning of “No,” from day one. Do not encourage behaviors such as leaping, growling, tug-o-war, howling, or escaping open gates and doors. Praise great behavior and disregard or walk away when there is bad behavior. The pup will certainly realize that if he is mischievous he will lose his companion/playmate.
- To correct a behavior you need to catch the English Setter in the act and startle him by shaking a container of marbles. As soon as you have done this make him improve his behavior and instantly give him a treat and approval. English Setters do not recall what transpired previously so reprimanding him after an event is of no use.
- Make sure to call/use his name favorably. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will cause mental confusion and the English Setter will think that if you call his name then it is for something bad. The doggy needs to relate his name with pleasant things like hugs, petting, strolls, treats, and such. If this transpires he will approach willingly the second you call his name.
- Make a coaching schedule that is short and sweet, say 10 minutes 3 times a day. Long repetitive lessons can be uninteresting and the English Setter will lose interest in learning. Make learning exciting and use trick training sessions to explain commands like sit, down, come and so on.
- Bond with the English Setter and both of you will certainly appreciate your lessons. The pup needs to wait to spending time with you and not keep away from you by turning tail or taking cover. Make certain to socialize the puppy dog quickly. Socialization is one of the most crucial lessons. The English Setter will need to master how to coexist around various other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. So, slowly and gradually introduce the dog when he is little to regular tasks and noises.
