We all hope for training the perfect Small Munsterlander, a pet that’s a CGC or canine good citizen and is well mannered and dependable at all times. Well dreams do come true when the education is done with kindness and focus. - Utilize only encouraging training techniques. Do not shout at, whack, or abuse your Small Munsterlander. It’s not just terrible but can produce behavioral issues. Using electric shocks, prong collars, sprays, and so on could easily harm the animal.
- Show the pup “nothing in life is free.” This is a philosophy that is broadly recognized as a helpful training method. As you emphasize this, the pup will be taught that to experience anything like affection, a stroll, or reward, he must act properly.
- Show the meaning of “No,” from the first day. Do not encourage actions like leaping, mouthing, tug-o-war, yapping, or running out of open gates and doors. Applaud courtesy and ignore or leave when there is bad behavior. The pup will realize that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
- To deal with a behavior you have to witness the Small Munsterlander in the act and surprise her by shaking a container of stones. As soon as you have done this help him deal with his behavior and promptly offer him a snack and praise. Small Munsterlanders do not recall what happened earlier so scolding him after an occurrence is of no use.
- Be certain to call/use his name favorably. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will cause confusion and the Small Munsterlander will think that if you call his name then it is something bad. The doggie must connect his name with happy things like hugs, petting, walks, food, and such. If this takes place he will approach willingly the second you call his name.
- Develop a training routine that is short and sweet, say ten minutes thrice a day. Lengthy repeated sessions can be boring and the Small Munsterlander is going to lose interest in learning. Help make training entertaining and use trick training to show commands like sit, down, come and more.
