Teaching Your Tyrolean Hound To Sit

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound to Sit

Are you attempting to teach your Tyrolean Hound to sit? The talent of sitting up is regularly taught to petite dogs, but larger pet dogs are a different story. It’s hard for them to sustain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound to Sit: Anticipation

Sitting is one of the 1st skills that you should teach to your Tyrolean Hound and forms the groundwork for a number of other techniques. To train a Tyrolean Hound to sit up, organize some snacks as a reward, and set the Tyrolean Hound on her butt in a corner, to ensure she is not able to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words

Stop her from falling forward by maintaining your hand beneath her chin and with your other hand hold her treat above your Tyrolean Hound’s face. Keep saying deliberately and distinctly, “sit up.” Do not force her to sit too long at any one time, but do repeat the instruction regularly and reward her often with lots of cheers and snacks.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

Throughout her initial lesson your Tyrolean Hound will require a surprising amount of help and support from you to prevent her from tumbling forward, but as she gains control of her stabilizing muscles and recognizes what you want her to do, she will count less and less on your hand to keep her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help and support up until you’ll only have to keep one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be waiting to stop her from falling forward; eventually you can most likely take away this hand and simply hold the reward right above the level of your Tyrolean Hound’s head.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound To Sit: Remove the Aids Incrementally

With regular practice your Tyrolean Hound will stay seated for a good while after you command her. Then she should be set against a wall, so as to offer her assistance for her back. Soon after she has taken in this and can hold her posture easily, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other objects that offer her less and less help. At some point she will grasp how to maintain her stability and sit in the absence of something to rest on.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been impressed upon her psyche by frequent repetition. Last here's the final lesson to teach your Tyrolean Hound to sit up immediately after she hears the words. There's a great chance, if she has been properly trained, you will merely have to summon her out in the room, show a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will do so. Then you'll just give her the treat while still in position.

The only requirement for perfection is to practice with your Tyrolean Hound several times a day until she will sit when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only after she has obeyed the direction.

Teach Your Tyrolean Hound Other Tricks

You have now the basis for teaching your Tyrolean Hound many other skills. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.

When teaching a Tyrolean Hound to submit to being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many clothes at once. Try at first with just a cap. Only after she becomes adjusted to that you could put on a jacket and slowly and gradually introduce her to more clothes.

Appreciate "teaching your Tyrolean Hound the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun in the process!
