Teaching Your Sloughi To Sit

Teach Your Sloughi to Sit

Are you aspiring to teach your Sloughi to sit? The talent of sitting up is effortlessly taught to small dogs, though larger pet dogs are a different story. It’s problematic for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Sloughi to Sit: Foundation

Sitting is one of the initial techniques that you should teach to your Sloughi and is the groundwork for numerous other techniques. In order to train a Sloughi to sit up, prepare some treats as a perk, and put the Sloughi on her butt in a corner, to ensure she is not able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Sloughi to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Sound of The Words

Protect her from falling to the front by holding your hand beneath her chin and using the other hand hold her treat above the Sloughi’s nose. Keep saying deliberately and distinctly, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit up for too long at any one time, but repeat the instruction frequently and reward her regularly with loads of cheers and treats.

Teach Your Sloughi to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

In her initial lesson your Sloughi will require quite a bit of help from you to prevent her from tumbling forward, but as she gains better control of her stabilizing muscles and starts to understand what you want her to do, she will count less on your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give your Sloughi less assistance til you’ll only have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be in position to prevent her falling forward; in the future you might withdraw your hand and merely hold the treat right above the height of her head.

Teach Your Sloughi To Sit: Remove the Aids Gradually

After steady training she will sit up well after you command her. Next she should be set up against a wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. Once she has taken in this and can hold her posture effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, pillows or other things that give her less and less help and support. In the end she will grasp how to sustain her balance and sit without having something to lean on.

Teach Your Sloughi to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious by means of regular repetition. Last comes the final lesson to teach your Sloughi to sit up as quickly as she hears the command. There's a great chance, if she has been diligently instructed, you will simply have to get her out into the room, display to her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she will do so. Then just give her the snack while still in position.

The only condition for excellence is to train with your Sloughi several times daily until she can sit on command and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has followed the direction.

Teach Your Sloughi Other Tricks

You have now the basis for teaching your Sloughi many other skills. She now can be taught how to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in conjunction with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.

In training a Sloughi to tolerate being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many garments simultaneously. Try at first with just a cap. Soon after she becomes used to that you can put on a coat and slowly introduce her to the other garments.

Appreciate "teaching your Sloughi the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
