Teach Your Russian Spaniel to Sit

Are you aiming to teach your Russian Spaniel to sit? The skill of sitting up is quickly taught to petite dogs, though much larger dogs are a different story. It’s hard for them to maintain their balance.

Teach Your Russian Spaniel to Sit: Prep work

Sitting up is one of the 1st tricks that you should teach to a Russian Spaniel and is the foundation for myriad other skills. In order to train a Russian Spaniel to sit up, organize some snacks as a perk, and place the Russian Spaniel on her backside in the corner, to make sure that she is not able to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.

Teach Your Russian Spaniel to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words

Stop her from tilting to the front by securing your hand on her chin and using your other hand dangle her treat above the Russian Spaniel’s face. Keep saying distinctly and deliberately, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit up for too long at one time, however repeat the training often and reward her often with plenty of cheers and snacks.

Teach Your Russian Spaniel to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

Throughout the 1st lesson your Russian Spaniel will need quite a bit of support from you to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gains better control of the muscles and realizes what you want, she’ll depend less upon your hand to hold her in position. Gradually, you can give her less help and support til you will just have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be set to stop her from falling forward; eventually you can take away your hand and just simply suspend the snack right above the level of her face.

Teach Your Russian Spaniel To Sit: Remove the Assistance Progressively

With regular training your Russian Spaniel will sit up for a long time after you tell her to. Afterward she should be set against your wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. Only after she has understood this and can hold her place effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that provide her less and less support. Gradually she will get the hang of how to preserve her equilibrium and sit without having something to lean against.




Teach Your Russian Spaniel to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all this training the words "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind through constant repetition. Last is the final lesson to teach your Russian Spaniel to sit up as quickly as she hears the phrase. Chances are, if she has been properly taught, you will merely have to get her out in the room, display to her a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she'll do so. Then just give her the reward while still in position.

The only requirement for flawlessness is to train with her multiple times a day until she sits up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only once she has adhered to the direction.

Teach Your Russian Spaniel Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Russian Spaniel many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.

When teaching a Russian Spaniel to submit to being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many clothes at one time. Try at first with a cap. Soon after she becomes used to that you can put on a jacket and over time introduce her to the other clothes.
