Teaching Your Pudelpointer To Sit

Teach Your Pudelpointer to Sit

Are you aiming to teach your Pudelpointer to sit? The talent of sitting up is quite easily taught to smaller dogs, but larger doggies are a different story. It is difficult for them to sustain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Pudelpointer to Sit: Preparing

Sitting up is one of the fundamental skills that should be taught to your Pudelpointer and is the foundation for many other skills. In order to train a Pudelpointer to sit up, prep some snacks as a reward, and put the Pudelpointer on her haunches in the corner, to ensure that she won’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Pudelpointer to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase

Stop her from pitching to the front by securing one hand on her chin and using your second hand dangle her reward above her face. Keep repeating deliberately and distinctly, “sit up.” Don’t make her sit up for too long at one time, but repeat the instruction regularly and reward her often with loads of praise and snacks.

Teach Your Pudelpointer to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

In her first lesson your Pudelpointer will call for considerable assistance from your hand to prevent her from pitching forward, but as she gets control of the stabilizing muscles and starts to learn what you want her to do, she’ll count less upon your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give her less help until you’ll merely have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be in place to prevent her falling forward; in the future you will be able to remove this hand completely and simply dangle the reward just over the level of her face.

Teach Your Pudelpointer To Sit: Remove the Assistance Slowly And Gradually

With regular practice she will stay seated long after you get her to sit. Afterward she should be set up against the wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. Only after she has gotten the hang of this and can hold her posture effortlessly, practice with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that offer her less and less support. In time she will understand how to preserve her balance and sit without relying on anything to lean against.

Teach Your Pudelpointer to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind with the assistance of constant repetition. Last comes the final lesson to teach your Pudelpointer to sit up immediately after she hears the phrase. There's a great chance, if she has been properly taught, you will simply have to get her out into the room, show to her a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the reward while still in position.

The only necessity for excellence is to rehearse with your Pudelpointer multiple times a day until she will sit on command and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only after she has followed the direction.

Teach Your Pudelpointer Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Pudelpointer many other tricks. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in conjunction with yours. She can also learn to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.

When instructing a Pudelpointer to accept being clothed, don't try to get her to wear too many garments at one time. Try at first with just a cap. Soon after she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and eventually introduce her to the other clothes.

Appreciate "teaching your Pudelpointer the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun along the way!
