Are you aiming to teach your Mioritic to sit? The skill of sitting up is regularly taught to pocket-sized dogs, though much larger dogs are another story. It’s difficult for them to maintain their balance.
Teach Your Mioritic to Sit: Readiness
Sitting up is one of the initial techniques that you should teach to a Mioritic and forms the ground work for innumerable other techniques. In order to train a Mioritic to sit up, organize some treats as a perk, and place the Mioritic on her butt in a corner, to ensure that she won’t be able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.
Teach Your Mioritic to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words
Prevent her from tilting to the front by holding one hand beneath her chin and with the other hand hold the snack above her face. Keep saying clearly and deliberately, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit too long at one time, however repeat the instruction routinely and reward her frequently with lots of approval and snacks.
Teach Your Mioritic to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced
In her initial lesson she will need quite a bit of assistance from your hand to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gets control of her stabilizing muscles and grasps what you want her to do, she will rely less and less upon your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give your Mioritic less help and support until you’ll merely have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be waiting to prevent her from falling forward; later on you can easily take away this hand entirely and simply hold the snack right over the level of her head.
Teach Your Mioritic To Sit: Remove the Help Progressively
With constant training your Mioritic will stay seated long after you tell her to. Then she should be set against your wall, so as to give her a support for her back only. Immediately after she has figured out this and can hold her posture easily, practice with her up against chair legs, pillows or other items that give her less and less aid. Subsequently she will get the hang of how to keep her balance and sit up without relying on something to rest on.
Teach Your Mioritic to Sit: Putting It All Together
Throughout all this training the words "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind through constant repetition. Lastly comes the final training to teach your Mioritic to sit up whenever she hears the phrase. It's highly likely, if she has been properly taught, you will just have to summon her out into the room, display a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will do so. Then you'll give her the treat while still in place.
The only prerequisite for excellence is to rehearse with her several times daily until she will sit up when told and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only after she has adhered to the command.
Teach Your Mioritic Other Tricks
You have now the groundwork for teaching your Mioritic many other tricks. She can now learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in conjunction with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.
While teaching a Mioritic to accept being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many items simultaneously. Try her at first with just a hat. Once she becomes used to that you can put on a coat and eventually introduce her to more clothes.
Take pleasure in "teaching your Mioritic the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun while you're doing it!
