Teach Your Miniature Pinscher to Sit

Are you working to teach your Miniature Pinscher to sit? The skill of sitting up is regularly taught to pocket-sized dogs, but much bigger canines are a different story. It is hard for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Miniature Pinscher to Sit: Foundation

Sitting up is one of the 1st tricks that should be taught to your Miniature Pinscher and lays the ground work for numerous other techniques. To train a Miniature Pinscher to sit up, prepare some treats as a perk, and put the Miniature Pinscher on her haunches in a corner, so she can not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Miniature Pinscher to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Words

Stop her from falling forward by keeping 1 hand beneath her chin and with the other hand dangle her snack above your Miniature Pinscher’s face. Keep saying clearly and deliberately, “sit up.” Do not make her sit up too long at any one time, however repeat the instruction regularly and reward her frequently with plenty of adoration and snacks.

Teach Your Miniature Pinscher to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

Throughout the 1st lesson she will demand quite a bit of help and support from your hand to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gains control of the muscles and is aware of what you want her to do, she’ll depend less and less upon your hand to hold her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help till you will basically have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be waiting to stop her from falling forward; eventually you can probably withdraw this hand completely and merely hold the reward right over the height of her head.

Teach Your Miniature Pinscher To Sit: Remove the Help Slowly

After consistent practice she will stay seated well after you tell her to. Afterward she should be set up against the wall, so as to give her help for her back only. Immediately after she has understood this and can maintain her position effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, pillows or other items that offer her less and less help and support. Sooner or later she will master how to preserve her stability and sit without relying on something to lean on.




Teach Your Miniature Pinscher to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind through regular repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Miniature Pinscher to sit up right after she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been diligently instructed, you will simply have to summon her out into the room, show her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she'll do so. Then give her the treat while still in position.

The only necessity for perfection is to rehearse with your Miniature Pinscher multiple times a day until she will sit up on command and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only once she has adhered to the order.

Teach Your Miniature Pinscher Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Miniature Pinscher many other tricks. She can now learn how to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

In instructing a Miniature Pinscher to submit to being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many things at once. Try her at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes accustomed to that you could put on a jacket and progressively introduce her to the other clothing.
