Teach Your Ibizan Hound to Sit: Planning
Sitting is one of the 1st tricks that you should teach to your Ibizan Hound and forms the foundation for a lot of other skills. To train a Ibizan Hound to sit up, prep some snacks as a perk, and set the Ibizan Hound on her rump in a corner, to make sure that she won’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.
Teach Your Ibizan Hound to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words
Stop her from tilting to the front by keeping 1 hand under her chin and using your other hand hold her reward above the Ibizan Hound’s nose. Keep saying distinctly and deliberately, “sit up.” Do not force her to sit too long at one time, however repeat the instruction routinely and reward her often with a lot of praise and treats.
Teach Your Ibizan Hound to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced
During her very first lesson she will need a surprising amount of help from your hand to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gains better control of her stabilizing muscles and sees what you want, she’ll rely less and less on your hand to keep her steady. Gradually, you can give your Ibizan Hound less help until you will only have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be prepared to stop her falling forward; later you might remove your hand completely and merely dangle the reward just over the level of her head.
Teach Your Ibizan Hound To Sit: Remove the Assistance Over Time
With constant training your Ibizan Hound will stay seated long after you make her. The next step is she should be set up against the wall, so as to offer her support for her back only. Only after she has grasped this and can keep her posture effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that provide her less and less aid. Subsequently she will be able to preserve her stability and sit without having something to lean against.
Teach Your Ibizan Hound to Sit: Putting It All Together
In the course of all this training the command "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her psyche by regular repetition. Last here's the final training to teach your Ibizan Hound to sit up as quickly as she hears the words. There's a good chance, if she has been diligently instructed, you will only have to call her out into the room, display a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she will obey. Then just give her the reward while still in position.
The only condition for excellence is to practice with your Ibizan Hound multiple times a day until she will sit when told and without being shown a snack; give her the rewards only once she has adhered to the order.
Teach Your Ibizan Hound Other Tricks
You have now the fundamentals for teaching your Ibizan Hound many other tricks. She now can be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold a toy in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.
While instructing a Ibizan Hound to accept being clothed, do not try to get her to wear too many things simultaneously. Try her at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes familiar with that you can put on a coat and slowly and gradually introduce her to more clothes.
