Teaching Your Chippiparai To Sit

Teach Your Chippiparai to Sit

Are you trying to teach your Chippiparai to sit? The technique of sitting up is regularly taught to petite dogs, yet larger dogs are another story. It is tough for them to keep their equilibrium.

Teach Your Chippiparai to Sit: Groundwork

Sitting up is one of the fundamental techniques that should be taught to your Chippiparai and forms the groundwork for myriad other techniques. To train a Chippiparai to sit up, put together some snacks as a reward, and put the Chippiparai on her haunches in the corner, to ensure she won’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.

Teach Your Chippiparai to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Words

Prevent her from falling forward by holding one hand on her chin and with your other hand hold her snack above her nose. Keep repeating deliberately and clearly, “sit.” Do not force her to sit up too long at one time, but do repeat the instruction frequently and reward her frequently with lots of kudos and snacks.

Teach Your Chippiparai to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

In the beginner lesson your Chippiparai will require significant help and support from you to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gets more control of her balancing muscles and understands what you want, she’ll depend less and less upon your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give her less help till you will only have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be waiting to prevent her from falling forward; eventually you can probably withdraw your hand completely and just suspend the reward just over the height of her head.

Teach Your Chippiparai To Sit: Remove the Aids Eventually

With constant training your Chippiparai will stay seated for a long time after you get her to sit. Then she should be set against your wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. When she has grasped this and can maintain her position effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, pillows or other items that give her less and less help. Ultimately she will master how to preserve her equilibrium and sit without having something to rest on.

Teach Your Chippiparai to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been impressed upon her psyche by means of frequent repetition. Now is the final training to teach your Chippiparai to sit up right after she hears the phrase. There's a good chance, if she has been carefully trained, you will simply have to get her out into the room, reveal a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then you give her the reward while still in position.

The only requirement for perfection is to train with her multiple times a day until she sits up when commanded to and without being shown a reward; give her the treats only once she has adhered to the command.

Teach Your Chippiparai Other Tricks

You have now the foundation for teaching your Chippiparai many other skills. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She also can learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

While training a Chippiparai to tolerate being dressed up, don't try to make her wear too many things at the same time. Try her at first with a cap. After she becomes used to that you can put on a coat and incrementally introduce her to the other garments.

Enjoy "teaching your Chippiparai the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
