Are you working to teach your Bull Terrier to sit? The skill of sitting up is quickly taught to compact dogs, however much larger doggies are a different story. It’s tricky for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Bull Terrier to Sit: Prep

Sitting up is one of the 1st techniques that should be taught to a Bull Terrier and provides the groundwork for several other skills. In order to train a Bull Terrier to sit up, prepare some snacks as a perk, and place the Bull Terrier on her haunches in a corner, to ensure that she won’t be able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Stop her from pitching forward by keeping your hand on her chin and using the second hand dangle the reward above the Bull Terrier’s face. Keep saying distinctly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Don’t force her to sit too long at one time, but repeat the training routinely and reward her frequently with loads of recognition and snacks.

Teach Your Bull Terrier to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

Throughout her 1st lesson your Bull Terrier will demand significant assistance from you to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gets more control of the muscles and starts to learn what you want, she’ll rely less on your hand to keep her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help and support up until you will merely have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be prepared to stop her from falling forward; later you will be able to remove the hand entirely and just hold the reward just over the height of her face.

Teach Your Bull Terrier To Sit: Remove the Aids Incrementally

After frequent practice your Bull Terrier will sit up long after you tell her to. Afterward she should be set up against a wall, so as to give her help for her back only. After she has gotten the knack of this and can maintain her place easily, practice with her up against chair legs, pillows or other objects that offer her less and less help. Gradually she will understand how to keep her stability and sit up without something to lean against.




Teach Your Bull Terrier to Sit: Putting It All Together

Throughout all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious with the assistance of persistent repetition. Now here's the final training to teach your Bull Terrier to sit up as quickly as she hears the command. Chances are, if she has been properly taught, you will merely have to call her out in the room, reveal to her a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she'll obey. Then give her the reward while still in place.

The only criteria for excellence is to practice with her several times daily until she sits up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only after she has followed the order.

Teach Your Bull Terrier Other Tricks

You have now the method for teaching your Bull Terrier many other skills. She can now learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in sync with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.

While instructing a Bull Terrier to accept being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many items at the same time. Try her at first with just a cap. Only after she becomes accustomed to that you can put on a coat and slowly and gradually introduce her to more clothing.
