Teach Your Polish Lowland Sheepdog Jumping for Agility

Teach Your Polish Lowland Sheepdog to Jump for AgilityThis post is concerning how to teach a Polish Lowland Sheepdog jumping for agility. We are often asked, “How many jumps should I start with?” You can’t ever have enough solo jumps to teach agility. A good starting point is four jumps. This is the absolute minimum quantity of jumps suggested.

Teaching the Polish Lowland Sheepdog jumping: Start with 4

You can teach the Polish Lowland Sheepdog a number of drills, skills, and exercises with 4 jumps. Four jumps will allow you to develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can position a “box” with your jumps and work on handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Polish Lowland Sheepdog jumping right and left. You can be outside the box and send your Polish Lowland Sheepdog or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be staged in a horizontal row, so you could practice threadles and serpentines.

Teach Your Polish Lowland Sheepdog Eight Jumps

Take the next step and practice 8 jumps. Now you can position 2 boxes with one starter jump. You’ve now multiplied your exercises that you can practice with your Polish Lowland Sheepdog. Your jump grids can be of recommended size and quantity of jumps. You could even position your jumps in a circle with the jump bars normal to the circle or on the circumference of the circle. This pattern also enables you to develop a variety of drills.

Teaching the Polish Lowland Sheepdog Double and Triple Jumps

The next consideration is a double jump and a triple jump. You could position 2 or 3 solo jumps together to make your expanded jump, but having double and triple jumps in your course work is extremely valuable to practice. We’ve seen several Polish Lowland Sheepdogs run a perfect course and the final obstacle is a triple and the Polish Lowland Sheepdog is not equipped for it, and bang, down comes the bar.
