This blog is about teaching your Portuguese Pointer jumping for agility. We are often asked, “How many jumps is best to begin with?” You can’t ever have enough solo jumps to practice agility. A good starting point is four jumps. This is the absolute minimum number of jumps suggested.
How to Teach a Portuguese Pointer to jump: Begin with Four
You can teach the Portuguese Pointer many exercises, skills, and drills with 4 jumps. Four jumps will allow you to work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can setup a “box” with your jumps and practice 270 degree jumps, collection, and handling. You can teach your Portuguese Pointer jumping right and left. You could be outside the box and send your Portuguese Pointer or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps could be setup in a lateral line, so that you can practice threadles and serpentines.
