Some zoologists speculate that dogs were first domesticated sometime between twelve thousand and 25,000 years ago—and that all canines evolved from the wolf. Since then, people have selectively bred more than four hundred breeds, which range in size from four-pound teacup poodles to Irish wolfhounds, whose three-ft stature has earned them the distinction of tallest dog.
