3 Tricks To Teach Your Kumaon Mastiff

To teach your Kumaon Mastiff tricks, even the easy ones, you should provide some savory treats, take him to a quiet suitable location and keep the teaching sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Kumaon Mastiff will start to get bored. Bear in mind when he gets something correct offer him lots of appreciation and a reward snack, just be mindful not to get him overly fired up or he will lose concentration.

Teach your Kumaon Mastiff to offer you his paw

To get your Kumaon Mastiff to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Next do it again, and after a couple of tries don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You need to observe that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he does not then go back to stating it at the very same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your response again. After just a few sessions most Kumaon Mastiffs pick this trick up rather easily.

Teach your Kumaon Mastiff to offer you a high 5

Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of a simpler trick, in this case the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your fingers and raise your hand a little higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Kumaon Mastiff will think you wish to do the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we instructed him previously. As he reaches up you state “high five” and offer your Kumaon Mastiff the treat. When your Kumaon Mastiff has mastered the paw trick this one should be really easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it on hand signal rather than vocal commands.

Teach your Kumaon Mastiff to leap through a hoop

Before you begin this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop too high up as you do not want your Kumaon Mastiff to injure himself while performing the trick. Place your Kumaon Mastiff on one side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Kumaon Mastiff the direction to stop sitting. In the beginning he may attempt to walk around or below the hoop. When this happens begin once again. Your Kumaon Mastiff wants the treat and will quickly learn that going around or beneath doesn’t get it so he’ll quickly begin going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the floor and gradually brought it to waist high. In case you own a smaller dog you might want to begin with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then gradually lift it once he gets used to the trick.

I really hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Kumaon Mastiff. Have patience with your Kumaon Mastiff and most of all, have a good time!
