Constant repetition of this training will produce efficiency. Over time you should stop limiting his head with your hand and allow him to balance the snack on his nose till you state “Paid for.”

He can also be taught to hold the snack in between his teeth and to not swallow it until told to do so. This trick can be made more remarkable by holding a conversation with your Rough Collie. For example, you may say: “Pal, old man, here is a very yummy snack, however it is ‘on trust.'”

Somewhat emphasize the word “trust” and then say: “I am thankful you do not like consuming things on trust, but this I have actually just found out has been ‘paid for,'” highlighting the words “paid for.”

Your Rough Collie can also be taught to toss the snack upon hearing a particular number. To teach this, balance it on his nose and hold his head while you count plainly and intentionally, 1, 2, 3, and after that nudge him under the chin. Before he has learned the technique he will toss it up as often at 1, 2, 4, as he will at one, two, three, but he should be drilled till he will not toss it until he hears “three.” It will make it easier for him if you slightly emphasize the “3” word.

After some time you can use numerous combinations of numbers and he will wait up until he hears the stressed “3.” While teaching him don’t make him wait too long prior to you say “three,” and enable him to eat the treat.
