How To Train Your Eurasier To Sit

Teach Your Eurasier to Sit

Are you working to teach your Eurasier to sit? The talent of sitting up is quite easily taught to compact dogs, though much larger doggies are a different story. It is hard for them to keep their balance.

Teach Your Eurasier to Sit: Readiness

Sitting is one of the very first tricks that you should teach to your Eurasier and is the groundwork for several other skills. In order to train a Eurasier to sit up, put together some treats as a perk, and place your Eurasier on her haunches in a corner, so that she will not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.

Teach Your Eurasier to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Sound of The Words

Protect her from tilting towards you by keeping one hand underneath her chin and using your second hand hold the snack above the Eurasier’s face. Keep repeating distinctly and deliberately, “sit.” Don’t make her sit too long at any one time, but do repeat the lesson frequently and reward her often with a lot of approval and treats.

Teach Your Eurasier to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

During her first lesson your Eurasier will demand significant support from you to stop her from tumbling forward, but as she gains more control of the stabilizing muscles and starts to learn what you want her to do, she will rely less upon your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give her less assistance up until you’ll simply have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be in position to prevent her from falling forward; later on you may withdraw this hand and just hold the reward just above the level of your Eurasier’s face.

Teach Your Eurasier To Sit: Remove the Assistance Eventually

After constant practice she will stay seated well after you set her up. Then she should be set up against a wall, so as to provide her help for her back only. Only after she has taken in this and can hold her posture effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that offer her less and less help. Ultimately she will figure out how to keep her equilibrium and sit without relying on anything to lean against.

Teach Your Eurasier to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all these lessons the command "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind with the assistance of constant repetition. Last here's the final lesson to teach your Eurasier to sit up immediately after she hears the words. Chances are, if she has been carefully taught, you will only have to get her out into the room, reveal a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she'll do so. Then you'll just give her the reward while still in place.

The only requirement for excellence is to practice with her several times daily until she will sit up when told and without being shown a reward; give her the snacks only once she has adhered to the command.

Teach Your Eurasier Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Eurasier many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She can also learn to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.

In instructing a Eurasier to tolerate being clothed, don't try to get her to wear too many clothes at the same time. Try her at first with a cap. Soon after she becomes used to that you could put on a coat and over time introduce her to the other clothes.

Delight in "teaching your Eurasier the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
