Are you aiming to teach your Trigg Hound to sit? The skill of sitting up is easily taught to very small dogs, but much bigger pooches are a different story. It’s problematic for them to sustain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Trigg Hound to Sit: Prep

Sitting is one of the fundamental skills that should be taught to your Trigg Hound and is the groundwork for plenty of other techniques. To train a Trigg Hound to sit up, put together some snacks as a reward, and put the Trigg Hound on her rump in a corner, to ensure she can’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Trigg Hound to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words

Prevent her from falling towards you by maintaining one hand on her chin and using the second hand dangle her treat above the Trigg Hound’s nose. Keep saying clearly and deliberately, “sit.” Do not make her sit too long at one time, but repeat the instruction often and reward her regularly with a lot of cheers and treats.

Teach Your Trigg Hound to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance

Throughout the very first lesson she will require quite a bit of help and support from you to keep her from pitching forward, but as she gets better control of the stabilizing muscles and starts to learn what you want, she will rely less on your hand to keep her in position. Then you can gradually give your Trigg Hound less help till you’ll just have to keep one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be in place to stop her from falling forward; in the future you can remove this hand and just suspend the reward right over the height of your Trigg Hound’s head.

Teach Your Trigg Hound To Sit: Remove the Help Over Time

With regular training she will stay seated for a good while after you set her up. Afterward she should be set up against the wall, so as to give her a support for her back. Immediately after she has gotten the knack of this and can maintain her posture effortlessly, rehearse with her up against chair legs, pillows or other objects that provide her less and less aid. Ultimately she will learn how to preserve her equilibrium and sit without relying on anything to lean against.

Teach Your Trigg Hound to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her psyche through persistent repetition. Last here's the final training to teach your Trigg Hound to sit up as quickly as she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been properly taught, you will just have to summon her out in the room, reveal a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then you give her the snack while still in position.

The only prerequisite for flawlessness is to practice with her several times a day until she sits on command and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only after she has adhered to the order.

Teach Your Trigg Hound Other Tricks

You have now the basis for teaching your Trigg Hound many other tricks. She can now learn how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.

When training a Trigg Hound to submit to being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many items at once. Try at first with a hat. After she gets adjusted to that you could put on a coat and little by little introduce her to the other clothing.
