In the beginner lesson she will call for a lot of help from you to keep her from tumbling forward, but as she gains control of her muscles and grasps what you want, she will count less and less on your hand to keep her steady. Gradually she will figure out how to maintain her stability and sit in the absence of something to lean against.

She now can learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold a toy in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.

When instructing a Shetland Sheepdog to submit to being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many things at one time. Try her at first with just a hat. Once she becomes adjusted to that you can put on a coat and progressively introduce her to more garments.
