Are you aiming to teach your Molossus to sit? The talent of sitting up is effortlessly taught to very small dogs, however much bigger pet dogs are a different story. It is tough for them to maintain their equilibrium.
Teach Your Molossus to Sit: Prep work
Sitting up is one of the fundamental techniques that should be taught to your Molossus and is the ground work for a lot of other tricks. In order to train a Molossus to sit up, prep some snacks as a reward, and place the Molossus on her rump in a corner, so that she is unable to fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.
Teach Your Molossus to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase
Prevent her from falling forward by keeping one hand beneath her chin and with the second hand dangle the treat above her nose. Keep saying clearly and deliberately, “sit.” Do not make her sit up too long at one time, however repeat the lesson routinely and reward her frequently with a lot of adoration and treats.
Teach Your Molossus to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
During her first lesson she will demand a surprising amount of assistance from you to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of the muscles and figures out what you want her to do, she’ll rely less and less on your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give your Molossus less assistance up until you’ll basically have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be set to prevent her from falling forward; later you might take away the hand altogether and merely hold the snack just above the level of your Molossus’s face.
Teach Your Molossus To Sit: Remove the Assistance Eventually
With frequent training your Molossus will stay seated well after you set her up. Then she should be set up against your wall, so as to offer her help for her back only. Immediately after she has understood this and can maintain her posture effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that provide her less and less aid. Subsequently she will learn to keep her balance and sit up without something to rest against.
Teach Your Molossus to Sit: Putting It All Together
Throughout all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her mind by regular repetition. Last comes the final lesson to teach your Molossus to sit up as soon as she hears the words. There's a great chance, if she has been carefully taught, you will simply have to summon her out in the room, display to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she'll do so. Then just give her the reward while still in position.
The only necessity for excellence is to rehearse with her multiple times daily until she will sit up when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has adhered to the command.
Teach Your Molossus Other Tricks
You have now the basis for teaching your Molossus many other tricks. She can now be taught to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.
When training a Molossus to accept being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many clothes simultaneously. Try her at first with a hat. Soon after she gets accustomed to that you could put on a jacket and gradually over time introduce her to more clothing.
