Are you trying to teach your Kangal Dog to sit? The technique of sitting up is effortlessly taught to very small dogs, yet much bigger pet dogs are another story. It’s tricky for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Kangal Dog to Sit: Planning

Sitting is one of the fundamental tricks that you should teach to your Kangal Dog and lays the foundation for countless other skills. In order to train a Kangal Dog to sit up, organize some treats as a perk, and place your Kangal Dog on her rump in the corner, so she will not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.

Teach Your Kangal Dog to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Phrase

Prevent her from pitching to the front by keeping your hand beneath her chin and with the other hand dangle the snack above her face. Keep repeating distinctly and intelligibly, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit for too long at one time, however repeat the lesson routinely and reward her often with a lot of adoration and treats.

Teach Your Kangal Dog to Sit: Help Her Balance

Throughout the 1st lesson your Kangal Dog will need a lot of help from you to stop her from pitching forward, but as she gets more control of her muscles and realizes what you want her to do, she’ll rely less and less on your hand to hold her in position. Gradually, you can give your Kangal Dog less assistance until you’ll just have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be set to stop her from falling forward; later you may remove this hand entirely and simply hold the snack right over the level of your Kangal Dog’s face.

Teach Your Kangal Dog To Sit: Remove the Assistance Gradually

After constant training she will stay seated well after you make her. The next step is she should be set up against a wall, so as to offer her assistance for her back only. Only after she has gotten the knack of this and can hold her place effortlessly, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other things that provide her less and less support. At some point she will get the hang of how to keep her equilibrium and sit in the absence of something to rest on.




Teach Your Kangal Dog to Sit: Putting It All Together

Throughout all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind through constant repetition. Lastly comes the final training to teach your Kangal Dog to sit up right after she hears the words. There's a good chance, if she has been properly taught, you will just have to call her out into the room, display to her a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she'll do so. Then you'll give her the reward while still in place.

The only necessity for excellence is to rehearse with her several times daily until she can sit when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only once she has complied with the command.

Teach Your Kangal Dog Other Tricks

You have now the method for teaching your Kangal Dog many other skills. She can now be taught to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in sync with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.

While instructing a Kangal Dog to accept being clothed, do not try to get her to wear too many garments at once. Try her at first with just a hat. Soon after she becomes used to that you could put on a jacket and progressively introduce her to the other garments.
