Teach Your Greek Harehound to Sit

Are you aspiring to teach your Greek Harehound to sit? The skill of sitting up is quite easily taught to pocket-sized dogs, yet bigger canines are another story. It is hard for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Greek Harehound to Sit: Preparing

Sitting up is one of the fundamental tricks that should be taught to your Greek Harehound and is the foundation for plenty of other tricks. To train a Greek Harehound to sit up, put together some snacks as a reward, and set the Greek Harehound on her backside in the corner, so that she is not able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Greek Harehound to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words

Stop her from tilting forward by keeping 1 hand on her chin and using your other hand hold the treat above your Greek Harehound’s nose. Keep saying distinctly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit for too long at any one time, however repeat the lesson regularly and reward her regularly with a lot of recognition and treats.

Teach Your Greek Harehound to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

During her 1st lesson your Greek Harehound will require a surprising amount of support from your hand to stop her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of the balancing muscles and is aware of what you want, she’ll rely less on your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give her less help and support until you’ll basically have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be prepared to stop her from falling forward; later you will be able to withdraw the hand altogether and simply dangle the reward just above the height of your Greek Harehound’s face.

Teach Your Greek Harehound To Sit: Remove the Assistance Incrementally

After frequent practice your Greek Harehound will stay seated long after you make her. Then she should be set up against a wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. Only after she has learned this and can maintain her posture easily, rehearse with her against chair legs, pillows or other objects that provide her less and less assistance. Ultimately she will get the hang of how to maintain her equilibrium and sit without needing something to lean against.

Teach Your Greek Harehound to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her mind through constant repetition. Last is the final training to teach your Greek Harehound to sit up as quickly as she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been diligently instructed, you will merely have to get her out in the room, show to her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she will do so. Then you give her the reward while still in position.

The only condition for flawlessness is to rehearse with your Greek Harehound multiple times daily until she can sit up when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only after she has followed the command.

Teach Your Greek Harehound Other Tricks

You have now the method for teaching your Greek Harehound many other tricks. She now can be taught how to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours.
