Basic Mudi Obedience Tips

Training has to be a pleasant and enjoyable situation for both you and the Mudi. If you’re not in the right mindset for training, do not even think of beginning. Always commend the Mudi for obeying your commands to the letter! A treat is anything that your Mudi wants and is happy to earn. Food is an obvious prize but different rewards could be oral praise and playthings. Multiple shorter training sessions are usually better than 1 long one. Training must not involve any degrading comments or consequences. There should be no shouting, no hitting or smacking, no leash jerking on training chains or collars, and absolutely no electric fences! Every single training opportunity should be enjoyable and positive with praise for each job well done.

Training Mudis with head collars

Dragging the leash is one of the few displeasing tasks of training a new Mudi puppy. Using a head collar for Mudi training has become very popular during the last decade. Training with a head collar does have some benefits over the regular training collar. Though it’s quite easy to use, it is crucial that head collars are fitted correctly and your Mudi systematically introduced to the collar. Head collars are usually more intuitive to use than a standard training collar. Head collars are quite effective when guiding Mudis in tricky situations.
