Basic Japanese Terrier Obedience Tips

Training needs to be a pleasant and rewarding experience for both you and your Japanese Terrier. If you are not in the best mood for training, don’t even think of beginning. Always treat the Japanese Terrier for following your orders exactly! A prize is anything that your Japanese Terrier wants and is happy to work for. Snacks are a great reward but different treats could be verbal commendation and playthings. Many brief training sessions are much more effective than one long one. Training should not involve any negative comments or punishment. There should be no shouting, no smacking or hitting, no leash jerking on choke leashes or collars, and absolutely no electric shocking! Each training opportunity must be enjoyable and reinforcing with treats for jobs well done.

Training Japanese Terriers with head collars

Yanking the lead is one of the few unpleasant requirements of training a new Japanese Terrier puppy. Using a head collar for Japanese Terrier training has become standard during the last few years. Training with a head collar does have some unique advantages over the standard training collar. While very easy to utilize, it is important that head collars are fitted correctly and your Japanese Terrier systematically introduced to the collar. Head collars are usually more intuitive to use than a typical training collar. Head collars are quite powerful when training Japanese Terriers in tricky situations.
