Training should be a positive and rewarding situation for both you and your Tornjak. If you are not in the best mood for training, don’t even think of beginning. Always commend your Tornjak for listening to your commands exactly! A prize is anything that your Tornjak desires and is willing to work for. Food is the typical prize but other treats could be verbalized commendation and toys. Multiple brief training sessions are much better than a long one. Training must not contain any negative components or punishment. There should be no shouting, no hitting or smacking, no chain jerking on choke chains or collars, and absolutely no electricity! Every training opportunity is to be pleasant and positive with treats for jobs well done.

Training Tornjaks with head collars

Dragging the leash is one of the few negative experiences of bringing up a new Tornjak puppy. Utilizing a head collar for Tornjak training has become very popular over the last decade. Training with a head collar does have some unique advantages over the standard training collar. While very easy to use, it is crucial that head collars are fitted correctly and your Tornjak properly introduced to the collar. Head collars are pretty much more easy to use than a regular training collar. Head collars are very powerful when training Tornjaks in tricky situations.
