This blog is concerning teaching your Old German Shepherd Dog to jump for agility. We are often asked, “What number of jumps should I start with?” You can never have too many single jumps to teach agility. A suitable starting point is four jumps. This is the absolute minimum number of jumps suggested.
How to Teach a Old German Shepherd Dog to jump: Begin with Four
You can teach a Old German Shepherd Dog a variety of drills, skills, and exercises with four jumps. Four jumps will allow you to develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can practice on a “box” with your jumps and work on 270 degree jumps, collection, and handling. You can teach your Old German Shepherd Dog jumping right and left. You can be out of the box and send your Old German Shepherd Dog or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps could be setup in a lateral row, so you can practice serpentines and threadles.
Declawing the Ragamuffin is an intense operation called a onychectomy, performed using anesthesia, that eliminates the claw of each finger (from the first knuckle out) of the Ragamuffin’s paws. There’s a tiny chance of death during the procedure, and a declawed Ragamuffin may experience an increased risk of infection and perpetual displeasure in its paws. This procedure isn’t advised for a mature Ragamuffin and is labeled an act of animal cruelty in some countries (as below).
