This post is concerning teaching a Golden Retriever jumping for agility. We are often asked, “What number of jumps should I begin with?” You can never have too many single jumps to learn agility. One good starting point is four jumps. This is the minimum count of jumps that we recommend.
Teaching the Golden Retriever to jump: Start with Four
You can teach a Golden Retriever many exercises, drills, and skills with 4 jumps. 4 jumps will let you work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can practice on a “box” with your jumps and practice handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Golden Retriever jumping right and left. You could be outside the box and send your Golden Retriever or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal row, so that you could practice serpentines and threadles.
