This post is concerning how to teach the Treeing Walker Coonhound to jump for agility. Often we are asked, “What number of jumps is best to start with?” You can’t ever have enough single jumps to learn agility. A suitable starting place is 4 jumps. This is the least count of jumps that we suggest.
Teaching a Treeing Walker Coonhound jumping: Begin with Four
You can teach your Treeing Walker Coonhound a variety of exercises, skills, and drills with 4 jumps. 4 jumps will allow you to work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can setup a “box” with your jumps and practice handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Treeing Walker Coonhound jumping left and right. You can be out of the box and send your Treeing Walker Coonhound or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal row, so that you can practice serpentines and threadles.
