3 Tricks To Teach Your Indian Spitz
3 Tricks To Teach Your Indian Spitz

To teach your Indian Spitz tricks, even the simple ones, you need to have in hand some of his favorite snacks, go to a quiet suitable location and keep the instruction sessions to under 15 minutes or your Indian Spitz will start to get tired. Always remember when he gets something correct give him lots of praise and a reward snack, just beware not to get him excessively ecstatic or he may lose focus.

Teach your Indian Spitz to give you his paw

To get your Indian Spitz to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. Then repeat this, and after a couple of times don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You should see that he is bringing his paw upward as you say the word. If he does not then go back to stating it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction again. After a few sessions most Indian Spitzs pick this trick up quite quickly.

Teach your Indian Spitz to give you a high five

Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a progression of a simpler trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in your fingers and lift your hand somewhat higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Indian Spitz will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we had trained him earlier. While he reaches up you state “high five” and offer him the treat. As soon as your Indian Spitz has mastered the paw trick this one will likely be really easy to learn and with only a few sessions he will be doing it on hand signal instead of voice control.

Teach your Indian Spitz to jump through a hoop

Before you begin this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little sensible and not suspend the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t really want your Indian Spitz to harm himself while performing the trick. Set your Indian Spitz to one side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and give the Indian Spitz the command to stop sitting. Initially he may try to walk around or beneath the hula hoop. If this happens start once again. Your Indian Spitz desires the snack and will quickly learn that going around or below does not get it done so he will quickly start going through it. The minute he does, say “hoop” and offer him the snack. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly raised it to waist high. In case you possess a smaller sized dog you may wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and after that gradually elevate it more as he gets used to the trick.

I know you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Indian Spitz. Have patience with your Indian Spitz and most importantly, have fun!
