3 Tricks You Can Teach Your Borzoi Now

3 Tricks To Teach Your Borzoi

To teach your Borzoi tricks, even easy ones, you should get some small treats, go to a remote suitable location and hold the teaching sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Borzoi will start to get tired. Bear in mind when he gets something correct give him great deals of praise and a reward treat, however beware not to get him extra ecstatic or he will lose focus.

Teach your Borzoi to give you his paw

To get your Borzoi to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. Next do it again, and after a couple of times don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and after that take it. You need to see that he is bringing his paw upward as you state the word. If he doesn’t then go back to stating it at the same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction again. After 2 or 3 sessions most Borzois pick this trick up quite easily.

Teach your Borzoi to offer you a high 5

Like a lot of tricks the high five is a continuation of a simpler trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in between your fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Borzoi will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will reach for the treat with his paw as we taught him earlier. As he reaches up you say “high 5” and offer your Borzoi the treat. Once your Borzoi has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be very easy to master and with only a few sessions he will be accomplishing it from your hand signal instead of voice control.

Teach your Borzoi to leap through a hoop

Before you begin this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not hold the hoop too high as you don’t really want your Borzoi to injure himself while practicing the trick. Set your Borzoi on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and give the Borzoi the direction to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to walk around or below the hoop. When this takes place begin once again. Your Borzoi desires the snack and will quickly find out that walking around or beneath doesn’t get it done so he will soon begin going through it. The second he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He will quickly be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I started off teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the floor and slowly increased it to waist high. In case you have a smaller sized dog you may want to begin with the hoop touching the floor so he just goes through the hoop and then gradually lift it once he gets used to the trick.

I hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Borzoi. Have patience with your Borzoi and most importantly, have a good time!
