You should discover that he is raising his paw up as you say the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your response again. Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of an earlier trick, and in this case the paw trick. Place a snack in your fingers and lift your hand just a bit higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Austrian Black And Tan Hound will believe you desire to do the paw trick and will grab for the treat with his paw as we trained him in the prior trick. Once he rises you say “high 5” and offer your Austrian Black And Tan Hound the snack. When I initially started teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually increased it to waist high. In the case that you have a smaller sized dog you might want to start with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and after that slowly elevate it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
