All of us imagine training the perfect Standard Schnauzer, a pet that’s a CGC or canine good citizen and is very well behaved and responsible at all times. Puppies are just like kids, they need regular supervision and training. Training a pup needn’t be a chore, all you need to remember are a few straightforward guidelines:

- Up until your pup learns, you have to keep an eye on him at all times. Once you aren’t able to then you have to cage him. Make a calendar for the pup, that will serve to help him to settle quickly. The schedule needs to include things such as hourly potty breaks, feeding times, break periods, strolls, play time, teaching, and so on. A pup that has a busy day has no time to get bored or get into mischief.

- Present the significance of “No,” from day one. Do not reinforce actions like leaping, growling, tug-o-war, howling, or escaping open gates and doors. Celebrate good behavior and just ignore or leave when there is bad behavior. The pup will realize that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.

- Be sure you call/use his name positively. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will create confusion and the Standard Schnauzer will presume that if you call his name then it is something negative. The doggy needs to relate his name with happy events like hugs, petting, walks, food, and such. If this transpires he will come happily the instant you call out his name.
- Create a teaching schedule that is short and sweet, about 10 minutes three times a day. Lengthy recurring lessons can be monotonous and the Standard Schnauzer is going to lose interest in the learning session. Make learning fun-filled and use trick training sessions to explain directions like sit, down, come et cetera.
- Connect with the Standard Schnauzer and both of you are going to like your lessons. The pup must look forward to spending quality time with you and not stay away from you by turning tail or taking cover. Make sure to socialize the puppy early.
