10 Tips For Training Your Standard Schnauzer

All of us imagine training the perfect Standard Schnauzer, a pet that’s a CGC or canine good citizen and is very well behaved and responsible at all times. Well dreams do come true if the training is done with kindness and commitment. Never forget pups learn from day one and need to be taught what is correct, what isn’t, and effective socialization.
Puppies are just like kids, they need regular supervision and training. Training a pup needn’t be a chore, all you need to remember are a few straightforward guidelines:

10 Tips For Training Your Standard Schnauzer

  1. Up until your pup learns, you have to keep an eye on him at all times. Once you aren’t able to then you have to cage him. Make a calendar for the pup, that will serve to help him to settle quickly. The schedule needs to include things such as hourly potty breaks, feeding times, break periods, strolls, play time, teaching, and so on. A pup that has a busy day has no time to get bored or get into mischief.
  2. Teach the pup to value you. Standard Schnauzers stay in packs and naturally follow a leader. Once you establish your dominance in no uncertain terms then training will end up being easy as the pup will comply with orders at all times and not test your authority.
  3. Use only encouraging training techniques. Never holler at, hit, or abuse your Standard Schnauzer. It is not just unkind but can lead to behavioral concerns. Using electric shocks, prong collars, sprays, etc may hurt the animal.
  4. Teach the pup “absolutely nothing in life is free.” This is a system that is frequently recognized as a helpful teaching method. When you apply this, the pup will be taught that to get something like affection, a walk, or snack, he will need to act properly.
  5. Present the significance of “No,” from day one. Do not reinforce actions like leaping, growling, tug-o-war, howling, or escaping open gates and doors. Celebrate good behavior and just ignore or leave when there is bad behavior. The pup will realize that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
  6. To remedy a habit you have to catch the Standard Schnauzer in the process and startle him by shaking a jar of stones. Once you have done this make him straighten out his behavior and instantly offer him a treat and praise. Standard Schnauzers do not remember what took place prior so reprimanding him after an event is futile.
  7. Be sure you call/use his name positively. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will create confusion and the Standard Schnauzer will presume that if you call his name then it is something negative. The doggy needs to relate his name with happy events like hugs, petting, walks, food, and such. If this transpires he will come happily the instant you call out his name.
  8. Create a teaching schedule that is short and sweet, about 10 minutes three times a day. Lengthy recurring lessons can be monotonous and the Standard Schnauzer is going to lose interest in the learning session. Make learning fun-filled and use trick training sessions to explain directions like sit, down, come et cetera.
  9. Connect with the Standard Schnauzer and both of you are going to like your lessons. The pup must look forward to spending quality time with you and not stay away from you by turning tail or taking cover. Make sure to socialize the puppy early. Socialization is one of the most important teachings. The Standard Schnauzer has to figure out how to coexist around other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. And so, gradually introduce the puppy when he is small to common tasks and sounds. Take him to the shopping center/ park, present him to kids and other pets, and make him unafraid of the vacuum cleaner and water hose.
  10. Master everything about potty training, leash walking, house breaking, as well as food training. These are training 101 lessons that every Standard Schnauzer puppy must master. Understand all the characteristics as well as distinctive features of the breed. This will give you valuable insights on how to successfully coach the pup.

As a Standard Schnauzer parent you have a lot of choices. You could certainly choose to train the Standard Schnauzer yourself or enroll at a qualified training school. Training a Standard Schnauzer has many steps: kindergarten, obedience training, doggy sports, presenting and conformation, in addition to other aspects like therapy dogs, hearing dogs, et cetera. What values you decide to instruct hinges on you along with the brainpower of your Standard Schnauzer. As you know, different dogs, like people, possess different talents. Choose wisely and both you and your Standard Schnauzer pup will have exciting times together.
